Becky Celebrates her 25th Anniversary
at Excelsior
Becky began her career at
Excelsior in 1984 as an intern and was then hired as a Night Supervisor.
In May 1985, she took on a Counselor position in a group home we
had at the time just down the street, called the Racquet Club. In
January 1988, Becky was promoted to the position of Assistant Treatment
Coordinator for Renaissance Cottage, which is now Summit Cottage.
1993-1994 Becky took on a position of Teacher Assistant in the school
after having her second child and feeling like she needed to focus
more on her family. In July 1994, Becky became the Team Leader in
the Transition Unit helping our residential girls learn and practice
skills for living in the community. She worked with the transitional
girls on getting jobs, taking the bus, applying for college and
so much more. She supervised counselors in the Transition Unit and
provided therapy to transition clients. After 14 years of working
as the Team Leader in Transition, the program closed in March 2008.
She then assumed duties as a Day Treatment therapist until December
2008, when she became the Employment Coordinator in the Human Resources
Department. Becky now uses her experience as a counselor and supervisor
to hire new staff members. She has also enhanced the student internship
program, partnering with more than 8 local universities to provide
professional internships for bachelor and master level students.
Becky is a single mother of
a 20 year old daughter in college and two very athletic sons, ages
17 and 13. She spends lots of time going to games all year round.
She is also the team manager for a football and basketball team.
"When reflecting on
the past 25 years, I realize how much the Excelsior clients and
staff have changed my life. I continue to have contact with many
of the clients whom I've worked with over the years and I feel blessed
that each client has come into my life. I completely believe in
the Excelsior program and I look forward to many more anniversaries
at this place I call my second home."
