Coach Sheila Stanley

Volleyball Coach of
the Year 2008 in the 5280 League
Surprised to be coach of the year after a losing
season, Coach Sheila Stanley was thrilled to see people recognize
and understand what she does with what she has.
Being the head volleyball coach at Excelsior for
the past 12 years hasn't always been easy, but it has been rewarding.
She has seen volleyball coaches come and go at other schools and
many with her same longevity. Two comments made about Coach and
her team this year that led her to becoming Coach of the Year were
"this is the best team I have seen you produce" and "there
was an incredible improvement and progress from start to finish
of this season."
Coach said this year she had 2 great captains who
the teammates listened to and respected. They were good role models.
"The whole team worked hard and pushed themselves to be better
as a whole. Tony Fetter was a great assistant coach who helped so
much throughout the season as well" said Coach.
"It is nice that other people are beginning
to understand who we are. I was surprised, but I am honored to be
named Volleyball Coach of the Year 2008."
