Our Excelsior school has a faculty of 45 which includes: principles,
teachers, teaching assistants, educational diagnosticians and support
staff. The school positions are important because learning is valued,
not only for personal enrichment for future survival and success.
Traditional subjects, learning and reinforcement of basic communication,
living skills, and exposure to vacation and career possibilities are
essential to adequate preparation for life.
School staff members are responsible for preparing our students to
live responsibly in a democratic society. Along with this, teachers
have the responsibility to help the student progress toward her fullest
potential.
Faculty members must be able to adapt teaching styles and strategies
to the individual differences and needs of the students.
Faculty members are responsible for enhancing basic skills in reading,
writing and math; to offer exciting high interest classes to stimulate
curiosity, practical application of skills along with vocational exploration.
Our Teachers must have the following
qualifications:
- Must have a Bachelors Degree.
- Must be Colorado endorsed in the content area or must be able
to obtain Colorado Endorsement (Check with Colorado
Department of Education).
- Must be skilled in the content area.
- Multiple strategies and skills to meet the divergent needs of
the students.
- Most teaching positions will require Special endorsement in
addition to content area endorsement or must obtain Temporary
Teacher Eligibility Verification.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Ability to encourage compliance with rules in a firm, non-abusive
manner.
- Ability to speak, hear and see (with or without correction)
within normal ranges.
- Must be able to work constructively with:
diversity
adolescents
females
persons with emotional disturbances.
Teaching Assistants must have the following
qualifications:
- Prefer previous experience in an educational setting, working
with adolescents and/or working with persons with emotional and
behavioral problems.
- Must have at least 2 years of college education
- Prefer a BA/BS in an educational or Human Service field.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to encourage compliance with rules in a firm, non-abusive
manner.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Ability to speak, hear and see (with or without correction)
within normal ranges.
- Ability to work constructively with:

and persons with emotional disturbances.
