The head of Excelsior's Food Services Class, Trish Wilson, searched
my eyes, saying, "The girls need pass along recipes."
Seeing my blank look, she explained, "They need recipes like
their mothers would hand down to them when they move into their first
apartment. You know, great recipes that moms have on hand that are
easy, quick and inexpensive."
Ah, I thought, understanding a need that I took for granted.
In May, I invited two good friends, Kelly Williams and Mary Abramson,
who are also good moms and good cooks, to come out to Excelsior to
demonstrate one of their own "Pass Along" recipes for the
girls in the Food Services Class. They thought it was a great idea
and soon we found ourselves in the Excelsior kitchen, decked out in
chef's coats and hats, surrounded by interested girls with big smiles.
It was a wonderful morning for all of us! We could see how happy the
girls were that we had come to spend time with them and they loved
our recipes for Chicken Parmesan, Feta Zucchini and Dream Cookies.

As for us, our smiles were just as big as theirs. What a gratifying
experience for three moms who love kids.
